The San Diego Humane Society, with close to 1,900 animals in its care, is facing near overcrowding. According to a recent press release from the organization, the organization is launching a month-long adoption promotion to alleviate the overcrowding and find loving homes for the 900 pets ready for adoption. Starting August 1 through the end of the month, the humane society is slashing adoption fees by 50%, inviting animal lovers to take home a new family member at a reduced cost.
On August 23, the San Diego Humane Society will take things a step further by dropping all adoption fees for a single day, this event, dubbed "Clear the Shelters Day," is part of a national campaign spearheaded by NBCUniversal and Telemundo to boost pet adoption rates which tend to slump during this period each year; during this day, prospective pet owners can swing by and adopt without spending a penny on the adoption fee. "Adopting a pet doesn't just change their life — it changes yours in the best possible way,” Dr. Gary Weitzman, president and CEO of San Diego Humane Society, emphasized in the press release, speaking to the profound impact that adopting a pet can have on an individual or family.
The altruistic endeavor offers a new home to animals in need and presents a financially sensible option for individuals considering pet ownership. Each pet adopted from the San Diego Humane Society comes with vaccinations, spay/neuter procedures, and microchips, ensuring that new pet owners receive a pet that has already received essential care. For those interested in adoption, the Humane Society invites potential adopters to visit their campuses located in El Cajon, Escondido, Oceanside, and San Diego, where walk-in adoptions are available from Tuesday to Friday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Saturday to Sunday, extending to 7 p.m.
To facilitate adopters' search for potential new friends, all available animals are listed on the San Diego Humane Society's website, where one can view profiles and pictures of animals, sdhumane.org/adopt. Urging the community to take advantage of this opportunity and open their homes to a pet in need, the San Diego Humane Society hopes to see that all its animals find a loving family by the end of the month, reducing the burden on their facilities and helping to improve the quality of life for these animals who depend so much on human compassion and benevolence for their well-being.
