A hit-and-run incident late Thursday night left a 38-year-old male pedestrian with serious injuries in University City, as reported by the San Diego Police Department. The collision occurred at the bustling intersection of La Jolla Village Drive and Town Centre Drive near the west crosswalk, where the man sustained multiple traumas, including abrasions to his head, face, and legs, a fractured tibia, and fractured ribs.
At around 10:19 PM, the vehicle involved in striking the pedestrian fled the scene, leaving behind no witnesses or vehicle description for law enforcement, according to the SDPD Watch Commander's Log, the injured man was transported to a local hospital for treatment, the circumstances of the driver's departure, including possible intoxication, remain under investigation but fault has not been determined at this time. Officer J. Perales of the San Diego Police Department, the Watch Commander, has called upon individuals with any knowledge of the incident to come forward.
The lack of immediate evidence and the unknown direction from which the vehicle approached have made the case challenging for the SDPD Traffic Division, which is currently leading the investigation. While hit-and-run accidents are a recurring menace on the roads of San Diego, the anonymity of the perpetrator adds a frustrating obstacle to the pursuit of justice and road safety.
The department urges anyone who might have any relevant information to contact the Traffic division or Crime Stoppers at 888-580-8477.
