It's time to pair fan passion with community activism, as FC Cincinnati and Hoxworth Blood Center once again join forces to run their specialty blood drive this August. If your summer so far has been more about soccer than civic duty, this might be your chance to balance the scales—and snag some team swag while you're at it. From August 1-31, blood and platelet donors at Hoxworth's seven donor centers and various mobile sites will walk away with an exclusive FC Cincinnati jersey, as long as the stock piles last.
Emphasizing the importance of cooperation, FC Cincinnati's chief youth and community officer, Kate Solomon, highlighted the club's commitment to the cause. "At FC Cincinnati, we're proud to be a dedicated partner with Hoxworth Blood Center in supporting the health and well-being of our community," Solomon said, according to a statement obtained by UC News. She laid stress on the impact of their drives: "Our annual blood drives at TQL Stadium each May and August shine a light on the vital need for blood donations, offering our fans and neighbors a meaningful way to give back."
It's more than just a jersey, these drives are integral to maintaining a healthy blood supply in the region. Summer typically sees a dip in donations, and with schools out and vacation on everyone's mind, the need for donors becomes even more pressing. Organizers are calling on the community spirit of soccer supporters to help make a difference.
For those inclined to roll up their sleeves for the cause, appointments are recommended, but walk-ins are also welcome. The combination of competitive spirit and compassion seems a natural fit, as fans of the sport often exhibit a tremendous sense of unity. "In coming together, we’re uplifting both our team and the city we call home,” Solomon elaborated in her statement shared by UC News.
So, mark your calendars, soccer aficionados and good Samaritans alike. This is an opportunity to embrace that team pride and potentially save lives in the process. The drive promises to be a vibrant affair, reflecting the colors and communal embrace of Cincinnati's beloved soccer team while addressing an ever-present need.
