Tulsa Police have made a second arrest following the deadly shooting at the city's Juneteenth festivities last month. Darmontre Peters, 21, has been charged with seven counts of assault and battery with a deadly weapon in connection to the incident that occurred on June 21, which left one person dead and several injured. News On 6 reported that Peters was apprehended by the Tulsa Police Fugitive Warrants Unit yesterday morning.
The festival, a celebration commemorating the emancipation of enslaved African Americans, was marred by violence around 11 p.m. According to KOCO, initial arrest in the case was of 19-year-old Timetrious Shamar Moore, who admitted to police that he had pulled the trigger, resulting in the death of 22-year-old Isaiah Knight. This arrest marked a somber contrast to the intended spirit of the festival, which was to celebrate freedom and cultural heritage.
The second suspect, Peters, was in possession of an AR pistol at the time of his arrest. FOX23 notes that police identified him as a suspect via surveillance video. Peters's arrest came as part of an ongoing investigation by Tulsa Police into the tragic events of that night.
Earlier, Moore had been charged with second-degree murder, assault and battery with a deadly weapon, and possession of a firearm under DOC supervision. Investigations continue as the Tulsa Police seek to clarify remaining uncertainties surrounding the shooting.
