
In a modest yet meaningful ceremony at Shelby County headquarters, new graduates and recently promoted members of the Shelby County Fire Department received recognition for their commitment and hard work. Firefighters from recruit classes #041624 and #041625 were formally welcomed into full service, while certain dispatchers and firefighters ascended the ranks. The department's Fire Chief Alvin Benson and his staff presided over the ceremony, bestowing badges and certificates upon each individual.
Awarded for over a year of full service were the members of Fire Recruit Class #041624: Kendal Badgett, Jahkobe Brown, Jaran Claybrook, Jeremey Lake, Jurieen Martin, Kenneth Moment, and Logan Ragland. They took the step forward after the latest graduating class, Fire Recruit Class #041625, which includes Gari Avellaneda-Valle, Kayla Colwye, Aiden Gould, Ayden Hall, Justin Hayes, Anwin Matthew, Calvin Matthews, Terrence McCraw, and Jackson Tupman, who are now beginning their duties.
In the telecommunications division, dispatcher Markivia Sims received a promotion to Lead Dispatcher, along with Cicely Banks and Courtney Jamison, showing the department's investment in seamless emergency communication. The role of Driver will now include Spencer Brown and Mark Freeman, tasked with piloting fire apparatus, according to the Shelby County Fire Department's official social media post.
Completing the list of promotions were Travis Cooper and Jacob Vandiver, stepping into the shoes of Fire Lieutenant and EMS Lieutenant, respectively, ready to lead in life-threatening situations. The department credited the hard work and dedication of these men and women for their achievements, contributing to a community that can now feel a bit more secure. The Shelby County Fire Department extended its gratitude to everyone who contributed to the success of the ceremony and gave a special mention to Gibson’s Donuts for their generosity. A tip of the hat was also given to the dispatch trainees, foreshadowing further announcements.
