Commuters in Shoreline are set to face a series of road closure woes as the City embarks on roadway improvements for the better part of August and September. According to an announcement on the City of Shoreline's official website, the northbound I-5 off-ramp at N 145th Street will be closed starting July 28, kicking off phased closures that will lead to more significant disruptions in September.
Specifically, the disruption will escalate come September 2, with a total closure of the N 145th Street overpass stretching until September 17. During this period, crews are slated to focus on adding a second lane to the off-ramp for northbound traffic and installing a roundabout on the overpass’s west end. While the roundabout is expected to launch in a single-lane configuration initially, the east side will stick with a signalized intersection well into late 2025.
For those angling to navigate around the closures, be prepared for detours. The suggested alternate routes are N 155th and N 130th Streets for east and west travel. Meanwhile, local authorities have ensured that while the N 145th Street on-ramp to southbound I-5 will shut down from August 25 to September 17, thoroughfares such as Meridian Avenue N, 1st Avenue NE, and 15th Avenue NE will remain unobstructed for northbound and southbound travel. Pedestrian access over the overpass itself will be maintained throughout the construction period.
The city's advisory on the matter emphasizes the need for caution while driving through the modified routes. "Drive slowly," it implores, noting that cyclists and pedestrians will be sharing detour routes and that numerous crosswalks will be present. Caution is doubly important due to the proximity of construction workers to live traffic. Shoreline inhabitants are urged to pay attention to the diversions and adjust their commutes accordingly.
