A crash on the I-485 outer loop in west Charlotte on Saturday morning resulted in six deaths and one non-life-threatening injury. The incident happened around 11:40 a.m. near Exit 9 (Wilkinson Blvd.) and involved a Honda CR-V, a Chrysler minivan, and a tractor-trailer. Emergency crews found the two vehicles under the trailer, according to QC News

The interstate near Wilkinson Boulevard in North Carolina was closed around 11:50 a.m. after a crash involving a Honda with one person and a Chrysler with six people. Both vehicles went off to the right and hit a parked tractor-trailer, which was not involved in the cause of the crash. First responders worked to free the people trapped, saying over the radio, “We’re still working on extricating your patients. When you come up, bring all your gear up,” as per QC News. Uber driver Wessel Tonkin used side roads to avoid traffic, saying, “I took the smaller roads that not a lot of people know about since we drive the roads often so we know all the shortcuts,” as stated by WSOC-TV. A Medic spokesperson said, “Our thoughts are with everyone impacted by this horrific incident.”

A large number of first responders, including several ambulances and the MEDIC mass casualties bus, responded to the crash. The cause of the crash and whether charges will be filed have not been released. One person with non-life-threatening injuries was taken to a hospital. Authorities advised the public to avoid the area as the investigation continues, as mentioned by WCNC
