Earlier today, Springfield Police Department officers arrested 42-year-old Noel Martinez after recovering a loaded firearm and trafficking-weight cocaine. The incident unfolded around 1:35 a.m. when officers, having responded to a gun call on Saratoga Street, identified Martinez as the suspect inside a convenience store on the 600 block of Main Street.
According to the Springfield Police Department's press release, once officers had located and detained Martinez, they were quick to also recover the loaded firearm and to approximately determine that Martinez was in possession of about 20 grams of cocaine. Martinez was subsequently placed under arrest and now faces multiple charges.
The charges levied against Martinez include carrying a firearm without a license, carrying a loaded firearm without a license, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, receiving stolen property less than $1,200, assault with a dangerous weapon, and cocaine trafficking in the amount of 18-36 grams. These charges shed light on the magnitude of the offenses he is accused of committing that evening.
Details surrounding the initial gun call and the identity of the potential victim remain scant. The situation escalated when the police had to rapidly act on information that Martinez might pose an immediate threat.
