The St. Charles Parish Council is gearing up for its next meeting, scheduled for August 4, at 6:00 pm in the Council Chambers of the Courthouse in Hahnville, as community members prepare to weigh in on a series of new proposals and amendments affecting local development and infrastructure projects.
A key item on the agenda, as reported by the St. Charles Parish website, is the introduction of an ordinance to sign off on a $100,000 Professional Services Agreement with Fairway Consulting and Engineering, LLC for the Circle K Sewer Force Main Extension Feasibility Study, a project that underscores the ongoing focus on the parish's utility needs.
Additional proposed amendments aimed to accommodate the growth and maintenance requirements of the area include an increase in resident inspection funds for the Murray Hill and Destrehan Drives Drainage Improvements by $109,750, and a bump in contract value for the Volkert, Inc. Evangeline Road & CN Railroad Box Culvert to $389,718.34.
Counterbalancing the boosts in expenditures, the St. Charles Parish Parks and Recreation sees a proposed modest decrease in its Bethune Park renovations contract, with a reduction of $500 while extending the contract time by 84 days, this decision stands as a reminder that financial agility can sometimes offset the rigors of administrative planning, adjustments to serve the community interests don't always necessitate increasing the fiscal burden.
Other significant proposals include agreements with Crescent Engineering & Mapping, LLC, totaling $156,792.40 for the Riverbend Subsurface Drainage and the JCJR Outfall Ditches projects, a testament to the ongoing efforts to address the parish's drainage and infrastructure needs.
Furthermore, in a nod to residential and environmental concerns, the council will consider a zoning ordinance exemption for single-family homes in the R-1A(M) district from the permanent dust-free paving requirement and seek to update the composition of the Coastal Zone Advisory Committee to reflect the evolving landscape of coastal management.
A proposed amendment for the Lakewood Drive Reconstruction project marks an $80,000 increase, a necessary escalation to bring the essential roadworks to completion – bringing the total contract amount to $799,380.24.
