The St. Charles Parish Council is scheduled to hold an upcoming session with several key ordinances on the agenda for public hearing and comment. The meeting will take place on July 21 at 6:00 p.m. in the Council Chambers at 15045 River Road in Hahnville, according to an announcement published on the Parish’s official website. The council is set to deliberate on a range of proposals, including traffic regulations, construction projects, and coastal program implementation.
Among traffic-related items, the council will contemplate installing "ALL-WAY STOP" signs at Lorraine and Amie Streets, and a reduction of the speed limit to fifteen (15) miles per hour on River Place Drive, an exception to the standard twenty-five (25) miles per hour limit. One ordinance grabbing public attention would eliminate the demolition permit fee entirely, an intriguing proposition for property owners looking to redevelop or clear older structures, as per the Parish’s news release.
In the area of environmental and infrastructure initiatives, the council is scheduled to consider an ordinance to establish a cooperative endeavor agreement with the Louisiana Department of Energy and Natural Resources for the implementation of the St. Charles Parish Local Coastal Program. Additionally, the council will review major contracts related to essential drainage and levee system improvements, including an $18,882,865.00 agreement with Sealevel Construction, Inc. for work on the Montz Pump Station No. 2.
As part of fiscal discussions, property owners who have failed to remove weeds or have incurred charges for the removal of unsafe structures and debris may have those costs assessed on their 2024 ad valorem tax bills. The council will also evaluate proposed amendments and extensions to existing infrastructure contracts, including a potential $381,480.00 increase to the agreement with Duplantis Design Group for the Des Allemands Boat Launch, to cover additional construction administration and inspection services.
Residents and interested parties are encouraged to attend the meeting to voice their opinions on these matters. Not only will the aforementioned ordinances be discussed, but also reports from the Department of Community Services and the Parish President are to be expected, according to the Parish's news release.
