In an effort to bolster their emergency response coordination, the St. Johns County Sheriff's Office is on the lookout for new Public Safety Telecommunicators (PST). These pivotal roles are the unseen backbone of emergency operations, making quick, decisive communications that can often be the difference between life and death.

The job isn't for the faint-hearted but it's open to those willing to rise to the challenge, even those without previous experience in the field. In a social media announcement, the St. Johns County Sheriff's Office detailed the responsibilities, "In this position, you'll receive emergency (911) and non-emergency calls, dispatch Law Enforcement, relay relevant information to units responding to a call, monitor deputies, SJSO personnel, and other public safety agencies during emergencies and normal operations."

The announcement also highlights an attractive financial incentive to attract skilled applicants. Newly hired PSTs, depending on their certification and experience level within the state of Florida, could see a one-time signing bonus ranging from $2,000 to $6,000, on top of a starting salary that stands between $51,000 and $54,825 following training completion.

But, the incentives don't stop at the signing bonus. Career advancement opportunities and educational incentive pay are on the table for the taking, showing a clear path for growth and recognition within the agency. The St. Johns County Sheriff's Office is clearly casting a wide net for talent, “If you are hired as a Public Safety Telecommunicator (PST), and meet the following criteria, you are eligible for a one-time signing incentive upon successful completion of initial probation,” the Sheriff’s Office added on their hiring pitch.
