Following a distressing incident of gunfire at a Walmart in Statesville, North Carolina, the local police department has reported an arrest. According to a social media post from the Statesville Police Department, the shooting took place in the store's parking lot on Sunday involving a vehicle that was struck by gunfire.
The department's officers were on the scene at the Walmart located at 1116 Crossroads Drive by 1:35 p.m. following reports of shots. They discovered several shell casings and the damaged vehicle. Through witness accounts and video surveillance, authorities identified a suspect vehicle that had already left the area, which was connected to an earlier shoplifting incident inside the store.
In a subsequent investigation, the suspect vehicle was found at a nearby residence. Keandre Terrell Cauthen, 18, was apprehended in connection with the shooting.
The young suspect is now facing charges, including one count of Discharging a Firearm into Occupied Property, and one count of Misdemeanor Larceny. Cauthen, held under a $100,000 secured bond, has not issued a public statement regarding the allegations.
