The National Weather Service says "breezy to locally windy trade winds" will continue through the weekend, with a slight decrease expected early next week. A mostly dry and stable airmass will bring lighter showers, mainly in windward and mauka areas "overnight and during the early morning hours," according to the National Weather Service.
The National Weather Service - Honolulu Weather Forecast reports that "surface high pressure far north of the state" is interacting with distant tropical cyclones. As the cyclones weaken and move away, wind speeds are expected to gradually decrease by next week. Still, "a typical trade wind weather pattern should continue through Tuesday." The forecast also notes that "Brief periods of MVFR conditions are possible with low clouds and showers facing windward and mountain areas in the overnight to early morning hours." A Wind Advisory is in effect for parts of the Big Island and Maui County.
A Small Craft Advisory remains in effect for most marine zones around Maui and the Big Island through tonight, likely extending into Friday, while a High Surf Advisory is in place for south-facing shores, peaking late today and Friday. The National Weather Service in Honolulu said, "High pressure far northeast of the state will help generate fresh to locally near gale trades for the remainder of the work week." Tropical Storm Iona is tracking well away from the islands with no significant impact expected. For fire weather, gusts up to 20 mph are forecast in leeward areas, though "The limiting factor is how low the relative humidity values will reach today into the weekend as an area of moisture slowly exits west of the state," lowering the chance of a Red Flag Warning.
