This July, the historic Pennypacker Mills is sparking interest with a duo of engaging events geared towards families and history enthusiasts alike, fusing music, games, and a dash of the past. On July 19, visitors can enjoy "Porch Performance: Music of the Civil War with Charlie Zahm" where Zahm, along with master fiddler Tad Marks, will take the audience on an auditory journey through Civil War tunes and tales, according to the Montgomery County.
Zahm's performance is built on a foundation of deep baritone, guitar expertise, and an engaging presence. The event, sponsored by Friends of Pennypacker Mills, is open to all and comes with a suggested donation of $2. "Bring a chair or blanket to sit on," invites the Montgomery County announcement, unfolding at 5 Haldeman Road in Schwenksville's own seat of historical preservation. Prior to the jamboree, the mansion opens for tours, the last of which begins promptly at 3:00 p.m.
The following Saturday, July 26, Pennypacker Mills morphs into a playground of yesteryears during Victorian Game Day, where the young, and young at heart, can immerse themselves in games of a bygone era. From the finesse of croquet to the simple joys of Jacob's Ladder, the collection of Victorian amusements promises a hands-on experience into the world of our ancestors, as reported by the Montgomery County.
In a demonstration of historical sportsmanship, the Athletic Base Ball Club of Philadelphia will challenge the Brandywine Base Ball Club of West Chester to a traditional 1860s style baseball game. Donning authentic period-appropriate uniforms and equipment, a time capsule of America's favorite pastime will unfold before your eyes, "Bring a chair or blanket to sit on to enjoy the game," the announcement suggests with historical charm. A $2 donation per person is suggested for this event as well, as obtained by the Montgomery County.
More than just an estate, Pennypacker Mills is a vivid portal to the Colonial revival era, managed by Montgomery County's Division of Parks, Trails & Historic Sites. With its year-round operations, the site is a constant host to free guided tours, craft workshops, and seasonal festivities designed to delight and educate visitors of all ages.
