
On the afternoon of last Saturday, a 28-foot sailboat became adrift off the coast of Waikiki due to steering problems, with three people on board. The Honolulu Fire Department received a distress call at 3:54 p.m. and promptly launched a rescue operation.
According to the Honolulu Fire Department, five units and 13 personnel were dispatched to the scene. First responders arrived at the Ala Wai Boat Harbor within ten minutes and located the vessel at 4:23 p.m. They focused on ensuring the safety of those on board. No injuries were reported among the boaters or responders. The boaters had dropped anchor as instructed to prevent the vessel from drifting.
The rescue crew boarded the vessel and began towing it toward Ala Wai Boat Harbor. During the tow, the boater was able to restore the sailboat's steering. The boat reached the harbor safely by 4:45 p.m. and docked under its own power, as reported by the Honolulu Fire Department.
