Two men were rescued from a dangerous situation on Long Island Sound after their kayak sank. According to ABC7NY, the incident happened yesterday evening and prompted a quick response from local authorities. One of the men was able to hold his phone above the water and call 911 around 5:30 p.m., leading to their rescue.
According to News12 Long Island, the two men had to tread water for about an hour before help arrived. Officers from the Suffolk County Police Marine Bureau and the Smithtown Harbor Master worked together to rescue them. The men’s ability to stay afloat until help came shows their determination and quick thinking in a difficult situation.
After being rescued from the water, the kayakers were brought to the dock at Kings Park Bluff, where first responders checked on them. According to ABC7NY, one man was wearing a life jacket, while the other, found closer to shore, was not.
Wearing a life jacket is important for water safety, and in this case, both men were lucky to avoid serious injury. They declined further medical treatment and remained calm after the incident, despite the challenging conditions on Long Island Sound.
