A tragic hit-and-run incident in Paramount has left one person dead and another in custody following an early Sunday morning collision. According to KTLA, the accident took place around 2:00 a.m. at the intersection of Alondra Boulevard and Garfield Street.
Details from the scene indicate that the crash involved a Dodge Ram pickup truck and a sedan, which both sustained considerable damage. The driver of the sedan, preliminarily identified as a man in his 60s, was the sole occupant of the vehicle and was killed as a result of the crash. Subsequent reports noted that the driver of a pickup fled the scene on foot, an individual who was later captured and detained.
ABC7 reported a further incident where a Los Angeles County sheriff's deputy's vehicle was struck by a separate driver, suspected of being under the influence, while conducting traffic control related to the accident. The driver failed a sobriety test and was arrested on the spot.
Meanwhile, a memorial with candles and flowers has been growing near the crash site. NBC 4 shared that investigators are still piecing together the details of the fatal event. In a statement obtained by Telemundo 52, a witness claimed to have seen someone exit the white pickup truck, glance over at the damaged sedan, and then run away, though police have yet to confirm this particular account.
The event and subsequent chase have caught the attention of the local community as well as law enforcement, who are actively searching for further evidence and have canvassed the area for security footage from nearby businesses. Both the sedan and the pickup truck were removed from the scene, yet the sense of unease and the pursuit of justice remain palpably present in the Paramount community.
