A Wayne State University student became the target of a physical assault this past weekend after she allowed a man access to her Detroit apartment so that he could use her bathroom. As stated by the Wayne State University Police Department, the incident transpired near 11 p.m. last Saturday at the Anthony Wayne Drive Apartments when the man, after entry, drew the student into the bathroom under false pretenses.

According to ClickOnDetroit, once within the confines of the bathroom, the suspect attempted to close the door and "implied he had a knife and threatened to sexually assault her." A struggle ensued during which the suspect physically attacked the victim. However, the woman was able to eventually persuade the suspect to leave, following which he was reportedly seen heading eastbound on West Warren Avenue.

Details about the assailant have been distributed by the authorities with the hopes of securing identification and capture. Described as a Black male, likely aged between 20 to 30 years, standing about 5 feet 5 inches to 5 feet 6 inches tall, and of a husky build, the suspect was also noted to wear black rectangular eyeglasses with a white stripe inside. He was last seen dressed in a light blue shirt with black print, pants of heavy material, and was carrying a black backpack. Additionally, "the suspect had a strong body odor that the victim described as sweaty," as reported by FOX 2 Detroit.

Police are now actively searching for the suspect, who provided the names 'Joshua' and 'Clarence Jose' at different points during the encounter. They request that anyone with information to directly call WSU police at 313-577-2053 or email [email protected], and to use the department's emergency line at 313-577-2222 should the suspect be spotted near the campus. Echoing safety measures, CBS Detroit shared Wayne State police recommendations advising residents not to let unknown individuals into secure buildings and to contact security promptly upon witnessing suspicious activities.
