Residents in east central, south central, and southeast Wisconsin are bracing for a sweltering couple of days ahead as the National Weather Service (NWS) Milwaukee/Sullivan has issued an Extreme Heat Watch effective from tomorrow morning through Thursday evening, per their recent weather message. Heat index values could climb as high as 106 degrees, creating conditions that could lead to a significant increase in heat-related illnesses.
During this period, the NWS is urging the public to exercise caution by drinking plenty of fluids, staying in air-conditioned environments, avoiding direct sunlight, and checking up on those who are most vulnerable, including relatives and neighbors, they further emphasize the danger of leaving children and pets in unattended vehicles where interior temperatures could quickly reach lethal levels. Tomorrow's forecast predicts mostly cloudy skies then gradually becoming sunny and hot with a high near 91, whereas Thursday could see a 40 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms after 1 pm with temperatures potentially peaking at 92 degrees.
In addition to the heat warning, there's also a potential risk for swimmers along the Lake Michigan shoreline. There is a high swim risk for Sheboygan and Ozaukee county beaches, and a moderate risk for Milwaukee and Racine county beaches on Tuesday with the NWS advising residents to steer clear from piers, breakwalls, and river outlets which could be particularly perilous areas. Thunderstorms also loom on the horizon late into Tuesday night as the evolving weather scenario takes shape across the region.
The Hazardous Weather Outlook issued by the NWS highlights the potential of thunderstorms tomorrow morning and notes that widespread thunderstorm chances are expected from Thursday afternoon into Friday morning; for individuals and emergency personnel, spotter activation will not be needed. Community members should remain alert for the changing conditions, as updates to the weather outlook can occur rapidly.
