The City of Tacoma's Equity in Contracting (EIC) Program is reaching out to the underrepresented business owners in the community, providing a helping hand to those who have traditionally been left on the sidelines of opportunity. In collaboration with the Washington State Office of Minority and Women's Business Enterprises (OMWBE), the city is organizing a virtual workshop designed to demystify the paths toward business certification. Set for August 6 from 9 to 10 a.m., this workshop aims to equip entrepreneurs with the knowledge they need to navigate the complex waters of federal and state certification processes.

During the upcoming workshop, attendees can expect to digest a myriad of topics, including a walkthrough of the City's EIC Program and practical tips on completing an application; furthermore, they will learn how to connect with City and OMWBE staff, understand the required documentation as well as what to bring for the next session, and gather insight into the benefits of becoming a certified business and the resultant contracting opportunities that might unfold">. The goal is clear: foster an environment where minority, women, and socially and economically disadvantaged business owners can step onto an even playing field.

The event, while an opening act in what is to be a two-part series, stands as a precedent for future engagements between the city and the business community. Interested individuals are encouraged to tune in and participate in the dialogue set to encourage and empower. Those who find value in the initial offering can mark their calendars for the follow-up hybrid OMWBE Certification 201 workshop, penciled in for August 18 from 3 – 4:30 p.m., promising deeper engagement and more hands-on assistance.
