Tampa's latest string of auto burglaries and credit card fraud incidents has been making headlines after police recovered a stolen black Jeep Wrangler linked to these crimes. The Jeep was found in the Target parking garage on N. Dale Mabry Hwy, sporting a license plate reported stolen from another vehicle in Clearwater. This discovery by the Tampa Police adds to the growing list of offenses conducted by an unidentified suspect who has been breaking into vehicles and using stolen credit cards around West Tampa and beyond.
The spree of unsavory events kicked off on June 22, when the suspect initially stole the Jeep from The Seazen Apartments. Following this, on June 27, an auto burglary at the same location saw the theft of a wallet and credit cards. These cards were later used in an attempt to make illegitimate purchases at a Publix off Gandy Blvd, according to details shared by the Tampa Police Department. In a statement obtained by Tampa.gov, the authorities also revealed that the suspect had evaded capture the previous night after being chased by the Clearwater Police.
The search is on for a white male with sleeve tattoos, who was last spotted wearing a black baseball cap, a salmon t-shirt, blue and white swim shorts, and black shoes. Found within the recovered Jeep were items linking the vehicle to numerous auto burglaries both in Tampa, particularly near the Courtney Campbell Cswy, and Avion Park as well as in Clearwater.
The Tampa Police Department urges anyone with information leading to the location and arrest of this suspect to contact them at 813.231.6130 and refer to report number 25-355020. The community's vigilance is essential in these matters, and, the department remains hopeful that with public assistance they can close the case on this series of auto burglaries and credit card fraud.
