
In an act of quick thinking and bravery, a 13-year-old intervened to save an 11-year-old boy from drowning at Silver Lake, Everett. The incident took place on Tuesday afternoon when the younger child fell off the dock into the water. KIRO 7 reports that the Everett Fire Department responded to the emergency call around 3 p.m. at Thornton Sullivan Park.
At the scene, the teenage good samaritan, noticing the child in distress, did not hesitate to dive into the lake to render aid. Despite the inherent dangers, he managed to locate the struggling child after several attempts and bring him to the surface. Once on the dock, three nurses and other bystanders stepped in and began administering CPR to the critical 11-year-old, as per an account by the Everett Post. In a critical state and after having been submerged for approximately four to six minutes, the resuscitation efforts were a race against time.
Following the initial lifesaving efforts by civilians, firefighters from Engine 7, whose station is in proximity to the park, arrived shortly. Their prompt response meant that the firefighters were able to continue life-saving measures, ultimately restoring the boy's pulse before his transfer to Providence Regional Medical Center. Both KOMO News detailed the series of events that unfolded, culminating in the boy regaining consciousness and continuing to receive medical treatment.
According to Kiro 7 reports, amidst the harrowing event, the level-headed actions of the teen hero did not go unnoticed. The Everett Fire Department praised the young man's crucial life-saving role, while underlining the criticality of CPR training among the public. The nurses and bystanders' immediate CPR technique application were pivotal in reviving the 11-year-old, "especially around water," as the Fire Department highlighted the importance of such skills in emergency situations.
