An early morning crash in Hudsonville led to a fiery scene when a vehicle went up in flames, leaving one teen hospitalized with burns. The incident occurred this morning, on westbound I-196 just west of 32nd Avenue, as reported by WOODTV. Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office deputies arrived at the site around 4:50 a.m. to find a vehicle engulfed in flames in a ditch, with the driver having fled before their arrival.
The 18-year-old Benton Harbor man suffered non-life-threatening burns to his arms and legs and was subsequently taken to a hospital for treatment, according to WZZM13. The passengers, including a 19-year-old woman and a 17-year-old boy, also from Benton Harbor, told deputies that another vehicle had hit theirs, causing them to go off the roadway. The grass under the car caught fire and then ignited the vehicle.
In an appeal for public assistance, authorities have encouraged anyone with information about the incident to contact Silent Observer. The Ottawa County Sheriff's Office continues its investigation into this unsettling event, trying to piece together the circumstances that led to an abrupt combustion and a young man's injuries.
Further details from MLive indicate that the passengers were able to exit the vehicle before it was fully engulfed. The identity of the driver, who is reported to have fled the scene, along with the vehicle that allegedly struck them, remains unknown as the authorities continue their inquiries into the harrowing morning events.
