Two teenagers are now in the clutches of the law after community tips aided Montgomery County Police in solving an attempted carjacking case that unraveled in Bethesda last May. Authorities arrested a 14-year-old male and a 16-year-old female for allegedly attempting to carjack a gray Toyota RAV4 from a rideshare driver who had picked them up and subsequently dropped them off along Rockville Pike, according to a recent statement from the police department.
The police report, detailing the teens' aggressive attempt to seize the vehicle, indicated the rideshare driver suffered a punch before she could flee from the area; the suspects were identified with the aid of the public after surveillance photos circulated on the department's social media platforms leading to their arrest five days ago, with the public once more being invoked to bring the remaining complicit party to justice. While the young duo faces charges of attempted carjacking, second degree assault, and conspiracy to commit carjacking, the Montgomery County Police Department, in an online statement, said the adolescents were released into parental custody following a trip to the Department of Juvenile Services.
Police are still looking for the last suspect in the RAV4 ambush and are asking for the public’s help. Crime Solvers of Montgomery County is offering a reward of $250 to $10,000 for information that leads to an arrest.
