A shocking admission has emerged from Texas, where 49-year-old Charles Byrd allegedly confessed to the murder of his wife, Angela Byrd, and the subsequent concealment of her body within the couple's home for a period spanning a month. Bexar County Sheriff Javier Salazar disclosed at a press conference that Byrd was arrested on Sunday after an unidentified relative tipped off the authorities. According to FOX 7 Austin, Salazar recounted that Byrd shockingly said he wanted to "go big or go home" in what he claimed was his first offense.

At the scene, deputies discovered the body of Angela Byrd, 44, which had been wrapped in plastic, signaling weeks of decomposition. This disturbing scene was matched by Byrd's own words: "He told the investigator he had never been in trouble with the law before and then blurted out the comment to our investigator, ‘You know, go big or go home'," Salazar elaborated, as reported by FOX 7 Austin. Byrd's startling admissions did not end there, as he continued to voice his remorse when he was located at a vacant house just about a mile from where the crime took place.

"I’m so sorry. I loved my wife," were the words Byrd reportedly expressed, attributing his actions to a "mental break" in an interview with KSAT. His full cooperation with the investigation included providing details of the violent encounter that happened on June 16. He also acknowledged that he expected the body would eventually be discovered.

Currently, Charles Byrd is facing charges of tampering with evidence involving a human corpse, with additional murder charges being held in abeyance as officials await the final determination of Angela’s official cause of death. Sheriff Salazar stated, "Once we get the ruling of the medical examiner, if indeed they are able to confirm that those remains are of Angela Byrd and if they are to confirm that she was indeed the victim of a homicide, then at that point, based upon some of the admissions that were made by Mr. Byrd, we will be seeking at least a murder charge on him," as FOX7 reports. Byrd remains in custody at the Bexar County Jail, where he is also undergoing a mental health evaluation.
