Texas residents can expect to witness a significant number of spiders emerge this fall as thousands of young adult male tarantulas are set to crawl out from their hiding spots in search of mates. The phenomenon won't be exclusive to Texas but also other states, including California, Colorado, Kansas, and New Mexico.
These large, hairy spiders are most likely to be observed from the late evening hours until early dawn, and although they are predominantly harmless, they possess the ability to bite, and some can even jump up to two feet, making it advisable to maintain a respectful distance if encountered, as informed by KSAT.
Tarantulas, which are expected to be more visible during the upcoming seasonal activity, provide important ecological benefits. According to KTSA, these spiders assist in controlling insect populations, contribute to soil air circulation, and help with water filtration. Experts advise the public to avoid disturbing the tarantulas when encountered.
