
A 20-month-old boy has been hospitalized in critical condition after an incident involving a pool on Detroit's east side. According to The Detroit News, the Detroit Fire Department received a call concerning the emergency at a residence located in the 3900 block of French. The department's response time was about three minutes, during which a family member was found performing CPR on the unresponsive child.
Details were sparse, but upon arrival of the first responders, "The crew did a great job and got the child's pulse back on the way to the hospital," Fire Department spokesperson Corey McIsaac stated. The quick action of the crew was to quickly transport the boy to St. John Hospital. As of the latest reports by CBS News Detroit, he was still listed in critical condition yesterday.
While specifics of how the child ended up in the pool have not been disclosed, Detroit police are actively investigating the circumstances surrounding the accident. The call to 911 was reportedly made around 12:30 p.m. on Wednesday, as per accounts.
There has been an outpouring of concern from the community, highlighted by well-wishes and hopes shared for the young boy's recovery. As the incident continues to be probed, family members have been noted for their efforts to potentially save the boy's life by administering CPR before help could arrive. The child's condition appeared to have been improving, a supervisor at the hospital described in a statement from ClickOnDetroit.
