Early Tuesday morning, two suspects were taken into custody after a stolen vehicle pursuit in Roxbury, with a firearm recovered at the scene. According to a report from the Boston Police Department, officers from District B-2 chased a Hyundai sedan with mismatched license plates before finally apprehending 23-year-old Francis Villar of Dorchester and a 16-year-old male.
The pursuit began around 2:00 AM when officers attempted to stop the vehicle, only for the driver to try and quickly escape. The car eventually struck a curb on Centre Street and crashed onto the front lawn of a business at 2990 Washington Street. Three individuals hastily fled the vehicle, prompting officers to split up and pursue each suspect on foot, leading to the eventual arrest of two of the three individuals involved, as reported by the Boston Police Department.
An officer observed the 16-year-old male, later found to be carrying a loaded Smith & Wesson SW9VE 9mm handgun with one round in the chamber and fifteen rounds in the magazine, struggling to free himself from bushes and then scaling fences before being apprehended. Villar was captured after a foot chase across multiple streets, during which an officer sustained minor injuries, as detailed the report from the Boston Police Department.
The third suspect managed to evade capture, disappearing into the New Academy Homes complex on Codman Park. A search of the vehicle revealed signs of forced ignition, a common tactic used in the theft of certain Hyundai models. The juvenile suspect was medically evaluated and then placed under arrest, while Villar is expected to be arraigned on multiple charges, including Receiving Stolen Property and Resisting Arrest, as stated by the Boston Police Department. In line with juvenile court procedures, the 16-year-old male is set to be arraigned in Boston Juvenile Court facing a slate of charges, encompassing unlawful possession of a firearm and ammunition, as well as trespassing and receiving stolen property.
