Two suspects have been taken into custody by the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department (CMPD) in connection with a recent homicide case in the Central Division, as reported by the department's news release. The individuals, Damien Evans, 25, and Shawn Cannon, 24, were arrested on Monday following the issuance of warrants for their alleged involvement in the case.
Shawn Cannon was apprehended by the CMPD’s Violent Criminal Apprehension Team (VCAT) while Damien Evans was brought into custody by CMPD’s Crime Gun Suppression Team (CGST) with aid from the Gastonia Police Department, after their identification by CMPD detectives; both were then subject to interviews by detectives at the Law Enforcement Center (LEC). Following these interviews, they were charged and transferred to the Mecklenburg County Sheriff's Office. Damien Evans faces charges including possession of a firearm by a felon and possession of a stolen firearm. Shawn Cannon has been charged with the same offenses in addition to felony flee to elude.
According to the CMPD, the investigation into the homicide remains active and ongoing. The next of kin of the deceased, referred to only as Mr. Bryant in the official statement, has been notified about the latest developments in the case.
