According to a social media post by the department, the crime occurred shortly after a promotional event at the school, with the victims being approached and threatened at gunpoint for their necklaces. Following the robbery, an investigation led to the identification and arrest of 18-year-old Jaylin Rankins and a 16-year-old male, both now facing robbery charges.
The incident, initially reported by the Stockton Police Department on Facebook, involved two suspects approaching the victims as they left the promotion event at the middle school, the suspects demanded the victims' necklaces with one of them brandishing a handgun; the victims aged 13 and 31 complied, while the 16-year-old managed to escape unharmed.
In a statement detailing the arrests, the police indicated that tireless efforts by detectives were instrumental in tracking down the perpetrators. The authority's commitment to resolving the case paid off when they took Rankins and the minor suspect into custody, where they were booked on charges related to the robbery.
Community response to the incident and subsequent arrest is indicative of the heightened concern around crime adjacent to educational institutions where the impressionable and the innocent often find themselves predictably, vulnerable to such predatory acts.
