Pierre Casimir, a 50-year-old man from Union County, was sentenced after a jury found him guilty of molesting two children in his family over four years starting in 2010. His conviction includes three counts of indecent liberties with a child, resulting in a prison sentence of 32 to 49 months. He will also be required to register as a sex offender for 30 years after his release, according to WBTV.
The victims, who were seven and twelve years old when the abuse began, did not speak out until 2022. As adults, they reported the abuse to law enforcement. The case was investigated by the Union County Sheriff’s Office. District Attorney Trey Robison said, "I commend the courage of these victims to come forward and see this process through," while Assistant District Attorney Megan Pfuntner led the prosecution, as noted by WCNC.
Robison stated, "I hope that the jury’s verdicts can afford some semblance of closure and justice after all of these years" for the victims, acknowledging the long process leading to this point, as mentioned by WCNC. The conviction has brought public recognition of the victims' trauma, but the broader conversation about abuse within families continues. This ongoing dialogue goes beyond the verdicts, focusing on awareness, vigilance, and prevention.
