The University of Cincinnati and UC Health have hit a fundraising record, raking in a whopping $228.5 million in contributions. This figure is said to be the largest in the institution's history. The donations are set to benefit students and health care services significantly. UC Foundation President Rich Bundy commented on the achievement, stating, "This remarkable milestone is a testament to the unwavering generosity of donors, whose contributions will resonate for generations of Bearcats to come," according to an article published by the University of Cincinnati's official news outlet.
One of the standout contributions comes from Jagtar "Jay" Chaudhry and P. Jyoti Chaudhry, who established the Chaudhry Family Scholarship Fund with a $4 million gift, poised to support roughly 150 first-generation, Pell-eligible students starting this fall. In another instance of generosity, an anonymous donor provided $5 million to UC Blue Ash College and UC Clermont College, aiding in scholarships, co-ops, and expanded career services for students. An additional gift, from an anonymous source, aims to bolster financial literacy across the UC Carl H. Lindner College of Business.
The fundraising efforts also boasted impressive community engagement during the UC Day of Giving in April of this year. More than 2,700 gifts were made, totaling $1 million, with a significant portion earmarked for student scholarships. "In support of student scholarships, 946 donors gave nearly $410,000," stated the aforementioned UC news article. Other contributions fortified initiatives like the UC Student Emergency Fund and Bearcats Pantry & Resource Center.
Other notable donations include a substantial sum from Larry and Rhonda Sheakley, who were the lead donors for the new Sheakley Indoor Practice Facility and Sheakley Athletics Performance Center. This $134 million facility is expected to elevate Cincinnati Athletics and stand out prominently among similar facilities across the nation. The Farmer Family Foundation also made a splash with a $5 million gift to enhance the UC Medical Center neuroscience floor, neuro-ICU, and establish a neuroscience nurse training program.
Overall, this record-setting year illustrates a robust commitment from donors to the university and its associated health system. With over $50.6 million dedicated to scholarships and 133 new scholarship funds created, UC's commitment to student access and affordability has received a remarkable boost. Furthermore, established estate gifts added another staggering $63.9 million to the fundraising totals, marking a year of unprecedented support for the Bearcats' future.
