In a recent turn of events, Vallejo Police Department Patrol Division officers apprehended a suspect, now known as the "Pokémon Bandit," who attempted to make off with valuable trading cards under the guise of an online sale gone wrong. As reported by the Vallejo Police Department, this individual faced accusations of not only larceny but also of assaulting his victims with pepper spray to facilitate his escape last Monday.

The confrontation occurred in the 100 block of Nugent Drive, where the suspect, feigning a normal transaction, tried to deceive the sellers into believing he had paid for the cards valued at $2,600. Yet, when his ruse was challenged, he sprayed one of the victims in the face with pepper spray and attempted a getaway on an electric scooter. The victims, however, managed to recover their property and were instrumental in providing a detailed suspect description, which led to the identification of the perpetrator.

This incident was not an isolated case. Vallejo PD uncovered a pattern, drawing links to two other robberies matching the same modus operandi. The victims of these crimes played a significant role, collaborating with police efforts and independently identifying the suspect via a photo lineup at the police department.

As luck would have it, police responded to an unrelated traffic accident last Tuesday at Tuolumne Street and Broadway Street, where they encountered an individual fitting the suspect description. The suspect's apprehension at the scene was serendipitous. He was found in possession of items such as a ski mask, an electric scooter, and a cellphone that further tied him to the crimes.

Following his medical clearance post-collision, the suspect, whose identity remains undisclosed, was booked into Solano County Jail under multiple felony charges, including robbery and assault with a chemical agent.
