A submerged piece of automotive history was dredged up from Belleville Lake as the Van Buren Township Public Safety's Dive team located a 1997 Ford Mustang convertible, a vehicle previously reported as stolen. According to CBS News Detroit, the discovery near Rawsonville Road last Monday has prompted an investigation into how and when the red Mustang ended up at the bottom of the Wayne County lake.
Details regarding the Mustang's watery fate remain as murky as the sediment it was found in, with authorities confirming the car had likely been submerged for a number of years, this detail echoing in statements obtained by multiple sources, including ClickOnDetroit and FOX 2 Detroit. The latter showing that the vehicle’s identifying information was lost after years underwater in the lake.
The Van Buren Township Public Safety Dive Team successfully recovered the stolen Mustang, which remains in a mud-caked state as efforts to uncover the car's history intensify. Sgt. Jeff Stanton of Van Buren Township is leading the call for public assistance in shedding light on the Mustang's past. Those who might hold pieces to this automotive mystery are urged to contact Sgt. Stanton at [email protected], as any information could be crucial in piecing together the events that led to the car's submergence.
