Authorities in Ventura County have apprehended a man on multiple charges including a felony warrant and firearms violations, as reported by Nixle. The suspect, identified as 33-year-old Juan Manuel Medina-Aguilar, was detained last week by patrol deputies near the Santa Clara river bottom, east of Chambersburg Bridge. The incident reportedly commenced around 2:30 PM when deputies spotted Medina-Aguilar, who exhibited symptoms suggestive of intoxication by a controlled substance.
The Ventura County Sheriff's Office stated that the deputies were on foot patrol when they decided to suddenly make contact with Medina-Aguilar. He was taken into custody for a Health & Safety Code violation under section 11550(a), which pertains to being under the influence of a controlled substance. A subsequent search of an encampment believed to be linked to Medina-Aguilar led to the discovery of a loaded firearm and other illicit materials. "Deputies located a loaded .22 caliber revolver, suspected methamphetamine, and evidence linking Medina-Aguilar to the encampment," according to details disclosed in the Nixle release.
During their investigation, detectives secured a search warrant for the suspect's encampment, where they found the loaded .22 caliber revolver, quantities of suspected methamphetamine, and evidentiary items associating the suspect with the site. Medina-Aguilar is now facing charges for possession of a controlled substance while armed, unlawful firearm transfer, and possession of a firearm with an altered serial number, in accordance with the Health & Safety Code section 11370.1(a) and various Penal Code sections.
Furthermore, Medina-Aguilar had an outstanding felony warrant from Franklin County, Ohio, adding an interstate dimension to his current legal predicaments. The arrest and these discoveries have prompted the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office to extend its gratitude to the community for ongoing support and contribution in aiding law enforcement efforts. "We are better at what we do because of our community partnerships," the Sheriff's Office has articulated in the statement.
The suspect has been booked at the Pre-Trial Detention Facility, awaiting further legal proceedings.
