Victorville residents were rattled by a violent confrontation this week, when a man was shot during what is being described as an argument that escalated rapidly into an attempted murder. The incident took place on the 11700 block of Sierra Road, according to the San Bernardino County Sheriff-Coroner Department's release.
During the incident, which occurred on Sunday, James Martin, a 67-year-old Victorville resident, is said to have fired multiple gunshots at the 33-year-old male victim, with at least one striking him in the back. The victim was taken to a hospital before authorities made it to the scene. Surrounding Martin's house, deputies tried to coax the occupants to come out while Martin quietly turned himself in at the Victorville Police Department hours later and was arrested without further ado.
The official statement from the Sheriff's Department details that after serving a search warrant at the suspect's residence, authorities found not Martin but his roommate, 50-year-old Elizabeth Grow, who was arrested for a parole violation. While Martin faces attempted murder charges at the High Desert Detention Center, Grow must also confront the consequences for his unrelated infraction.
In response to the ongoing case, law enforcement officials are calling upon the community for additional information.
