The Employment Security Department (ESD) of Washington state has recently garnered recognition for its commitment to disability inclusion, having been awarded by the Disability Inclusion Network (DIN). Playing a pivotal role in fostering equity and belonging, the agency's efforts to uplift persons with disabilities have not gone unnoted, showcasing its dedication to its core values.

ESD's accolades include the agency-wide Respect, Acceptance and Dignity of Persons with Disabilities (RADD) award, a testament to the organization's pledge to fully integrate access, equity, and belonging into its operations. Furthermore, one of ESD's own, Bill Kinyon of WorkSource Spokane, was distinguished with the Advocate of the Year award by DIN. Kinyon's commitment "to quickly build empowering relationships and respect for people with disabilities and identifies and removes structural barriers to access," is one integral piece to ESD's collective success, as per the Employment Security Department's announcement.

Cami Feek, the Employment Security Commissioner, expressed gratitude for this recognition, “We are honored to receive these awards from the Disability Inclusion Network," she noted. Feek emphasizes the mission of ESD, stating, “Our mission is to contribute to healthy communities by providing people equitable access to the resources they need to improve their economic security. We don’t do this work to receive awards, but being recognized in this area is extremely meaningful,” according to the ESD announcement.

The role of ESD extends beyond these awards, as the agency continues to significantly provide a financial safety net through unemployment benefits or paid family and medical leave. It partners with state and community entities to equally help ensure people find jobs and employers find suitable workers through WorkSource. Additionally, ESD also offers up-to-date labor market information which proves to be a critical resource for various stakeholders. The Disability Inclusion Network associates itself with enhancing opportunities for members of the disabled community and allies, encompassing Washington state agencies and higher education institutions.
