Drivers heading through western Colorado, better brace for some roadwork delays starting July 7. As reported by CDOT, a major resurfacing project is kicking off on CO Highway 141 near Gateway, and it's expected to wrap, by the end of October.
The construction, a joint effort by CDOT and Elam Construction, will touch approximately 13 miles of the highway, stretching from Mile Point (MP) 107 to MP 120. Jason Smith, CDOT Regional Transportation Director, said, "CO 141 is a scenic and historically significant route that winds through the western region of the state,” as per CDOT, acknowledging both its cultural importance and functional role. The work includes not just an asphalt overlay but also guardrail replacement and bridge deck repairs at four locations.
Traffic will be affected from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., Monday through Friday, where motorists might experience up to 20-minute delays. Expect a one-lane alternating traffic pattern controlled by a pilot car, a 10-foot width restriction for vehicles, and a speed limit reduction to 40 MPH. When crews are repairing bridges, traffic will be guided by a temporary portable traffic signal, in place 24/7.
