Charlotte's William R. Davie Park has stepped up its environmental game with the reopening of a revamped recycling center. The center, now equipped with staff support, has expanded its collection capabilities as part of a collaborative effort between Mecklenburg County Solid Waste and Park and Recreation, officials announced Monday.
Anybody looking to unload their recyclable materials can swing by the center situated inside the park, where staff are on hand to assist with sorting and recycling. The following items are now accepted at the site: plastic bottles and jugs with necks, cardboard, both aluminum and steel cans, milk and juice cartons, paper, glass bottles, rechargeable batteries, bicycles, books of all binding, textiles, shredded paper, white rigid foam, and even food scraps. However, household waste, appliances like stoves and refrigerators, tires, and construction debris, are a no-go at this local spot – these bulkier items belong at the county's full-service centers.
Charlotte residents can access the improved recycling center at 4635 Pineville-Matthews Road, open multiple days a week: Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday, and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. The convenience of the new hours and services underlines Mecklenburg County's commitment to making the act of recycling as smooth and straightforward as possible for its citizens.
Not stopping at just handling recyclables, Mecklenburg County Park and Recreation is also looking for community feedback regarding additional park improvements. A focus at the moment is the dog park, with a survey circulating that closes next Friday. Park visitors, and especially dog lovers, are encouraged to chime in with their opinions, to make sure the next set of upgrades echoes the needs, and desires of the people who use this public space.
