Nearly $30,000 in Labubu collectible dolls, a popular item in pop culture circles, were recovered from an Upland home, following a burglary at a Chino warehouse, authorities said. Detailed in a CBS News Los Angeles report, the theft involved suspects who reportedly took the collectibles in several trips over a few days. The Chino Police Department also shared in a Facebook post that the items are often sold online for high prices.
Dolls from artist Kasing Lung's "The Monsters" book series have been rising in popularity, turning them into highly sought-after merchandise for collectors. The investigation, which spanned across San Bernardino County, involved serving a search warrant that led to the recovery of evidence suggesting preparations for the dolls' resale and shipping across the country. While one suspect attempted to escape, the individual was arrested at the scene. However, they have not been identified, the KTLA News report indicated.
During the search, 14 boxes of the stolen merchandise were found. In a statement obtained by ABC7, Chino police said, "Officers...recovered 14 boxes of stolen merchandise, along with evidence indicating the items were about to be resold and shipped across the country." The recoveries followed a similar instance last week in La Puente, where authorities investigated the theft of Labubu dolls from a novelty store, which resulted in the recovery of some of the stolen items by Los Angeles County sheriff's deputies.
Authorities have not disclosed if the incidents in Upland and La Puente are related, but have confirmed that the rightful owners received their merchandise back. The success of the operation was hailed by the Chino Police Department on their social media, expressing pride in the "outstanding teamwork in bringing this case to a close!"
