Amidst evolving federal policy under the Trump administration, Attorney General Andrea Joy Campbell launched a new webinar series aimed at guiding non-profit organizations through the turbulence. Aptly named "Navigating the Changing Non-Profit Landscape," the initiative, as reported by Mass.gov, offers legal guidance and resources to tackle challenges including federal funding cuts and shifting immigration policies.
Concerned with unlawful federal action that's been hitting the non-profit sector hard, AG Campbell is taking a stand. "As the Trump Administration continuously attempts to illegally terminate federal funds and take other unlawful actions that impact the non-profit sector, organizations across the Commonwealth are faced with new challenges, questions, and uncertainty," AG Campbell stated, as seen on Mass.gov. The webinar series intends to shore up these organizations, ensuring they can continue serving the community.
Resources made available during the launch covered a variety of needs, from board member duties to charity dissolutions. Further support for Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Accessibility (DEIA) initiatives was given, despite federal rhetoric otherwise. Coming off the heels of two coalitions led by AG Campbell issuing DEIA guidance to businesses and educational institutions across the nation, the Civil Rights Division also shone a light on the rights of immigrants, providing "Know Your Rights" guidance in response to increased ICE activities.
Throughout the webinar, alongside the comprehensive resource sharing, an overview was given of the numerous lawsuits filed by AG Campbell’s office aiming to check the administration's authority. As reported by Mass.gov, "April 2025 saw AG Campbell filing a lawsuit challenging the administration’s dismantling of AmeriCorps and the termination of millions of dollars in grant funding to non-profits across the country." Some of these legal challenges have already resulted in court orders blocking said administration actions, signaling a robust defense for non-profit interests.
Those interested in attending future sessions can find information and registration links on the Mass.gov website. Upcoming events will discuss organizational restructuring on September 25, endowment management on October 21, and advice for smaller volunteer-led organizations on November 18. For inquiries or complaints about non-profits or charities, the Non-Profit Organizations/Public Charities Division encourages contact at 617-963-2101 or through an online form available on their website.
