Anne Arundel County has introduced a new initiative aimed at providing valuable insights into the quality of life of its residents. The Community Wellbeing (CW) Index is the latest tool developed from the collaboration between the Office of Equity and Human Rights and ArundelStat. This comprehensive platform is designed to help local government and community leaders evaluate disparities and needs within the area, using standardized metrics to inform policy and improve resident well-being.

County Executive Steuart Pittman emphasized the utility of the CW Index in a statement obtained by Anne Arundel County, highlighting that, “The Community Wellbeing Index gives us a clearer picture of where barriers exist and where resources are needed most.” The index details various indicators, including health, prosperity, and security metrics, aiming to pinpoint exactly where resources should be channeled. The granularity extends to the census-tract level, ensuring that even at the neighborhood level, disparities can be detected and addressed.

The CW Index is more than just a policy tool; it's also accessible to the public. Residents can enter their address to see how their community stacks up in different aspects of well-being. This tool exemplifies how data transparency can empower both policymakers and citizens, fostering an environment where everyone can partake in the conversation on equity. Compiled from reliable sources like the U.S. Census Bureau, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and FEMA's National Risk Index, this index presents information that’s both trustworthy and actionable.

The county has announced a virtual public presentation of the CW Index, scheduled for September 25, under the EngageArundel webinar series. This will grant community members and stakeholders an opportunity to delve deeper into the workings of the Index and its applications.
