Tax-free shopping, splash pad fun, and a serving of culture are on the menu for Arlington this weekend, August 8-10. According to the City of Arlington, shoppers can grab back-to-school bargains sans sales tax, catch the tail end of summer at a splash pad event, or partake in any of the myriad activities spread across the city. It's a weekend pack with enough variety to keep any local or visitor engaged.
The annual Tax-Free Weekend is in full swing from Friday through midnight Sunday. Shoppers can save money on clothes, footwear, school supplies, and backpacks under $100. The exemption from the sales tax also extends to online or catalog sellers based in Texas. Just in time for the school rush, this event is aimed at backing both parents’ pockets and local businesses. For the younger set, the Splash Pad Night at The Beacon Recreation Center is a confirmed go, with its free entry and an assortment of child-friendly activities—including the ever-popular bounce house—in store.
Culture vultures can satisfy their cravings with an array of options. 'Beyond Borders: Contemporary Visions of Latin America', running at Wellspring on Main through August 28, boasts a diverse collection of art just ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup games in Arlington. If live performance is more your beat, the poignant play 'I’m Proud of You' at Theatre Arlington delves into an uplifting exploration of friendship touched by the wisdom of Mr. Rogers, with showtimes throughout the weekend. And for some runtime fun, the Wings hosts the WNBA action with back-to-back fixtures on Friday and Sunday at College Park Center.
While Saturdays are meant for Farmers Markets, and Arlington has that covered with its local produce and artisanal goods, it also amps up the collectibles game with the PokeMart Summit at Esports Stadium Arlington, a trading card extravaganza boasting collectibles, gameplay, and artistry tailor-made for fans of all ages.
