The Arlington Police Department has recently concluded its "Operation Slowdown," an initiative aimed at reinforcing traffic law adherence among drivers. Between July 18 and August 3, officers dedicated 147 hours to traffic enforcement, culminating in a significant number of stops and citations. The results of this push were reported in a social media post from the Arlington Police Department.
The statistics are a stark reminder of the everyday violations that occur on the roads. In total, the department executed 379 traffic stops and issued 347 citations, a testament to the Arlington PD's ongoing effort to seriously address the violations. Notably, speeding was the primary reason drivers were flagged, with 183 citations handed out for speeding beyond the set limits. The operation also resulted in aggressively tackling various other offenses, including 3 no seatbelt and 2 child safety seat violations. Additionally, 9 citations were given for ignoring traffic signs or signals, and a sweeping 150 other violations were cited during the enforcement period.
Enforcement efforts went beyond mere traffic infractions; the operation led to 4 arrests with 9 charges filed. Among these, the department reports a charge for unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, two incidents of marijuana possession, and an individual with a felony warrant out for theft. Further, there was one arrest connected to a family violence warrant, another for the unlawful carrying of a weapon, and a third person charged with possession of drug paraphernalia. Finally, two arrests were made for several Class C misdemeanor warrants, rounding out a multifaceted police endeavor.
