The Arlington Public Library is gearing up to welcome new volunteers with an upcoming recruitment event. Slated for Saturday, Aug. 30, the library is looking to connect with individuals eager to donate their time and skills to foster a space of growth and learning. Between 11 a.m. and 12:30 p.m., community members can stop by the George W. Hawkes Downtown Library to learn more about how they might actively participate in volunteer opportunities.
This drive is more than a mere call for help; it represents an opportunity for prospective volunteers to meet those who have already been integral in supporting the library's mission. According to the City of Arlington, attendees can expect to meet current volunteers, engage in hands-on activities, and connect with various city department representatives. From retirees to teens, the library is eager to show there are roles cut out for a vast array of interests and schedules.
Arlington's library system is known for being more than just a place to check out books; it is often a community hub for learning and connection. Both longtime volunteers and newcomers readily share this sentiment. As Lee Ann Ausec, a dedicated volunteer and former educator, recalls, "I’ve always nurtured the love of reading." Ausec told the City of Arlington, "Volunteering here lets me continue that passion while giving back to a place that means so much to me." This spirit of giving is echoed by teen volunteer Callie Armenta, who views her involvement as a way to create a safe space for everyone and to be the bridge from curiosity to opportunity.
