Arlington Water Utilities has just unveiled a splash of creativity for local students with its latest Value of Water Mini Poster Contest. The utility company is asking the city's youngest residents to put their artistic skills to work and express the essence of H2O in their lives. According to the City of Arlington, the contest welcomes submissions from pre-kindergarten to fourth-grade students, either living in or attending school in Arlington, from Sept. 2 through Oct. 13 of this year.

Artistic youngsters can let their imaginations run wild within an 8 ½ by 11-inch canvas — or piece of paper, to be exact. As specified in the contest details, participants are encouraged to illustrate why water wets their world, whether through a dip in the pool or quenching their thirst with a chilled drink. Looking to draw some attention – and maybe a prize or two – the event is luring young talent with rewards including STEAM kits, books, and pool passes contributed by Arlington Parks and Recreation.

Not to leave the smaller tots behind, pre-kindergarten students are offered a choice between coloring pre-printed sheets or wielding their crayons on blank ones. The submissions are expected to be backed with essential information such as the student's first name, grade, and school, alongside the parent or guardian's contact. Entrants are also asked to explain their artwork and its relevance to their own lives in a few sentences. Completed masterpieces should be sent to [email protected] or can be dropped off at designated locations across Arlington.
