Visitors to Baldwin Beach can now enjoy a safer shoreline experience after the removal of several safety hazards, including tree stumps and concrete remnants. As reported by Maui County News, the cleanup took place on the eastern section of the beach, also known as Kapuka‘ulua, on Thursday.
The operation, initially expected to span two days, surprisingly concluded in just a single day, clearing away three large tree stumps, three sizeable pieces of concrete, and various other debris to make the beach safer for the public, during this time where public access to the work zone was restricted the remainder of the beach and park facilities stayed open.
This timely intervention is a joint effort by the County Department of Parks and Recreation and the University of Hawai‘i Sea Grant Program, which managed the oversight of the operations. The collaboration ensured that the popular beach spot maintained its reputation for beauty and safety, drawing both residents and tourists alike to its sandy shores.
