Marking a positive shift in the narrative of violence among youths, Baltimore has seen its lowest homicide rates for individuals under 18 in more than a decade. In what has been a progressive first half of 2025, city officials have reported just two such deaths. According to the data from the Baltimore Police Department, as covered by FOX Baltimore, this reduction is a part of a broader decline in violent crime across the city.

Under Governor Wes Moore's administration, Maryland has earmarked over $50 million for bolstering the Baltimore City Police Department. This is with the collaborative efforts to stymie crime, particularly among younger demographics who are targeted by gun safety measures and juvenile crime law reforms. "The State of Maryland is incredibly proud of the work that has been done in partnership with local, state, and federal officials to take an all-of-the-above approach to public safety that is showing results across the state as we work to prevent crime and hold those perpetrating it accountable," Gov. Moore said in a statement obtained by FOX Baltimore.

Parallel to these governmental efforts, Baltimore has shifted its approach, viewing gun violence through the lens of a public health issue. According to The Baltimore Banner, this has involved investments in diversion programs intended to prevent young people from engaging with gun violence, hopeful to create a legacy of peace for future generations.
