In a recent verdict that concludes a harrowing journey for one Bay Area family, John Thompson was found guilty of second-degree murder in the 2022 death of Breanna Labat. According to a social media post by the Galt Police Department, the jury reached its decision on July 30, following a trial in San Mateo County. Labat was tragically killed on December 2, 2022, amid a domestic dispute in East Palo Alto, and notwithstanding a far-reaching investigation, her body remains unfound.
According to the Galt Police Department, two days after Labat's murder, on December 4, 2022, the FLOCK license plate reader camera technology in Galt caught an image of Thompson’s truck, suggesting that he might have traveled to Galt to dispose of Labat's remains. Galt Police Detective Sergeant Mark Fewel played a pivotal role in the conviction, providing "critical testimony during the trial," specifically on the FLOCK camera system's ability to track the suspect's vehicle locations and movements within Galt.
The Galt Police Department acknowledged its role in the investigation, citing collaboration with allied agencies as a key component in securing the recent conviction. In an official statement, the department noted, “GPD is proud to support allied agencies and remains committed to doing our part in helping families get answers and justice.”
