The City of Boerne has released its proposed property tax rates for the upcoming year and is seeking public feedback. The two rates under consideration are the no-new-revenue tax rate and the voter-approval tax rate.
The no-new-revenue tax rate is set at $0.4615 per $100 of property value. This is the rate that would keep tax revenue steady from last year, considering only properties taxed in both years, and it's a key figure for taxpayers who dread seeing any significant bump in their bills. On the flip side, the voter-approval tax rate—thicker at $0.4865 per $100—is the max rate the city can set without getting residents to okay it through a vote.
The City of Boerne has outlined how its proposed property tax rates are calculated, using a formula that divides total taxes by the taxable value of properties and makes adjustments for legal requirements. According to the city’s recent notice, this year’s rates aim to balance the maintenance of current city services with minimizing impacts on taxpayers.
The city will hold public meetings in the coming weeks to gather input on the proposed rates. Residents will have the opportunity to comment before final decisions are made on the property tax rate for the upcoming year, which will affect funding for services such as parks, streets, and libraries.
